Resveratrol Supplements - Hormonal Effects

While a great deal of attention has been paid to the cancer-fighting properties of the antioxidant known as resveratrol, it seems that more care needs to be also paid to the fact that it works in a significant way on the hormonal levels within the body. This seems to be why resveratrol supplements have been linked to weight loss and the ability to build muscle, for example. One major way in which resveratrol works on hormones within the body is the fact that it decreases estrogen levels while sparking a corresponding increase in testosterone. This helps to help balance out the levels within the body.

These fluctuating hormone levels that result as a direct result of resveratrol supplements have a great significance on many anti-aging properties that have been linked to this miracle product. Weight loss is but one of the examples that is often given of benefits. The weight loss occurs as a direct result of the drop in estrogen, which causes both men and women to store more fatty deposits within the body. Decrease estrogen, and decrease fat. It is that simple. The corresponding rise in testosterone may then help with muscle growth, as well as an increase in metabolic rate, which further helps in the fight against fat.

Another example of how resveratrol supplements act in an anti-aging capacity through hormones is the fact that they help fight against wrinkle growth. This rejuvenating effect is also due to the fluctuations in hormones that happen thanks to these supplements. While a simple glass of wine wouldn’t have enough of an effect on the body to help erase the lines of time, there is a concentrated amount of resveratrol in the supplemental form that helps to combat fine lines that accumulate on the face.

All of these effects of resveratrol supplements need to be studied in greater depth, of course, as this is a recently discovered compound that needs more research on humans to draw any conclusive results. Long term effects of taking concentrated supplements are not yet known at this time, but all early results are quite promising. This is why the medical community as well as the public alike seems quite excited about this discovery and its potential for further research.  In the meantime, there is no reason not to increase one’s intake of both wine and grapes, as well as begin taking supplements in moderation if desired. It’s recommended however to ask for the advice of a professional before beginning any program of nutritional supplements.
