One of the most hyped new supplemental materials on the market today is the antioxidant known as resveratrol, a substance found naturally in dark skinned berries, grapes, and red wine. With so much information being thrown around in terms of promotional material and media attention, it can be difficult for the average consumer to discern fact from fiction. Because this is a supplement that is still under the process of ongoing research, the resveratrol side effects have not been definitively pinpointed yet. The benefits are certainly no longer under debate, though their research in humans is still also being researched.

There are numerous pros to giving resveratrol supplements a chance. This substance has been linked to a whole host of generous benefits. These range from the superficial, including a decrease in body fat levels, weight loss, and wrinkle prevention, to the more serious. Resveratrol may potentially help prevent cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases linked to old age. The research that has been undertaken thus far has fallen mostly in the realm of subjects such as mice, and there needs to be more human studies that help back up these claims. In the meantime, we can only turn to anecdotal resveratrol side effects as well.

These resveratrol side effects mainly include problems with the joints and tendons. Some users have reported numbness or tingling in their extremities, or the development of tendinitis. This is in addition to other random body aches and pains that may or may not have been related to the resveratrol. In addition, some users have also reported a loss of appetite, as well as an overall jittery feeling similar to other weight loss supplements on the market. At any rate, these are purely anecdotal side effects, and without the research to back them up are more of a matter of speculation than anything else.

Hopefully in the next year or two, we will have more information about resveratrol side effects and this will help consumers make more informed decisions. In the meantime, there is either the option of consuming resveratrol in its natural state in order to reap the numerous benefits as well as the other vitamins present in berries and fruits, or turning to the world of supplements. Taking this chance is easier if you consult a health care professional first, who may be more informed about the risks and their relation to your particular health background. This is the case with any dietary supplement.
